Donations are Welcome!

Barkerville.com was the first website for Historic Barkerville, established as a labour of love by Jason Young working at the Cariboo Sentinel in 1995, and Ron Young. Jason was a student at the University of Victoria and early on had come to recognize the value of the internet. Ron Young and Jason Young established the Cariboo Sentinel II newspaper in 1993 and published annual issues for ten years, drawing on the archives of the original Cariboo Sentinel and 19th Century published material pertinent to the gold rush era. The Cariboo Sentinel II was distributed in Barkerville and the surrounding Cariboo region.

In 2001 Ron Young established the Gold Rush Trail Journal newspaper, expanding on
the concept of the Cariboo Sentinel II and published it for three years,
distributing it from Vancouver to Prince George. The revenue
generated from these endeavours supported the maintenance
and development of Barkerville.com. For many years
Barkerville.com was the only website that provided
up to date information, schedules, maps, photos,
stories and archival material about
Historic Barkerville, the result of
many hundreds of hours of labour.

Today you can freely download and
read all the issues of the Cariboo Sentinel II
and The Gold Rush Trail Journal. If you
feel we have provided an interesting and
valuable resource please consider donating
to help us keep Barkerville.com
alive. Thank you!
